Here’s a Coworking Out Loud Hot Take for you.
A common mistake that I see coworking space operators make is to try to build community from the outside or from above as though you’re building something that’s separate from you.
You must embed yourself within the community. All of your members are little points of light, of energy, and you’re also one of those points of light and energy.
You have unique responsibilities and a unique role as the community builder and leader. But nonetheless, you are still part of that community.
So to help you do that, be willing to show up as your whole self, share your challenges, share your wins, share your vision for the space and community, ask for input and feedback, let people help you shape it, ask for help when you need it.
The more you can come from a place of being part of the community, the richer and more engaged and authentic your community will be.
Don’t try to build your community from the outside or from above. That will never ring true. Be willing to jump into the middle of your community, be brave, be courageous, be your awesome self, and your community will thrive for it.
